Welcome to the new Print Driver download center for RISO printing equipment. The process has been streamlined to speed you through selecting and downloading the correct driver for your machine. The driver download pages to the right have been separated into categories to make searching for your driver quicker. Select a category by clicking on the button title that describes the type of driver you need. Once redirected to the download page, use the drop down menu’s to fine tune the criteria to the specific driver needed in either US English, Spanish, Portuguese or French.

As expected, the introduction of Lion breaks a bunch of drivers and apps. Most importantly for us, Fiery print drivers will not work… even System 9 Fierys. Although the print subsystem has not changed significantly in Lion, what has caused havoc is the discontinuation of Rosetta. What does that mean? No native 32bit support! The first casualty of that fact is the driver installer for pre-System 9 Fierys. Since it is 32 bit, it won’t even begin the install process. System 9 driver installer is 64 bit but the driver itself still relies on 32 bit components.

The band-aid…

So you just bought a brand new Mac or jumped on App Store and updated to Lion… oops! Ummm… my printer doesn’t work anymore! Well, EFI does have a band-aid to get you through the rough patch. They released a driver they call “Express”. It is a stripped down driver that does the basics. This will get your job to the Fiery… and if you need more advanced settings? YAY! Command Workstation DOES work in Lion. So does Hot Folders. So you can drag and drop your PDF files and still have full functionality. You have to do this anyway if you want to take advantage of the Adobe PDF Print Engine (APPE) that is part of System 9 Fierys. You can find the Express driver here:

My 2 cents…

Fiery Printer Driver

I would hazard to guess that most Production environments use 50% Macs or more. You would think that EFI would get started on Lion drivers as soon as the first Beta was available (maybe they did, who knows). Mac os download streaming video. The writing was on the wall long before the announcement of Lion that a full 64bit driver would be needed at some point. I shouldn’t pick on EFI too much… there seems to be a lag from most print driver providers.
